Hostgator.com is not available in China now?
Jul 20th, 2007 by mylotter
I can’t visit hostgator.com since yesterday. Actually, I am not sure about when it was unavailable in China because I have not visited it for couple of days. Now, I have not troubles in using my host, so I usually login my cpanel directly.
Yesterday, when I wanna have a check about my promotion status, I found it was not accessible. After that, I have tried several times since yesterday, all failed. I don’t know the exact reason. Just now, I asked one of my friends outside of China to have try, he told me it works there. So, things may be that Hosgtgator has been blocked in China.
Fortunately, I can login my Cpanel and manage my blog. Also, I have been installing a Chinese CMS during the past two days. That’s what I feel lucky. But meanwhile that’s what puzzles me much. If hostgator.com is blocked, why is my blog still available?
hostgator.com is a big hosting provider, and the experience in hostgator during the past couple of days is pretty good. Now, since it is unaccessible, hostgator would lose many Chinese users. I have no idea about what’s going on. Hope it is only a temporary situation of server, and wish it recover soon.
If you are in other coutries, maybe you can visit it. And if you are seeking a good host for you sites, just try hostgator. There are some coupon codes in my blog, Just click here to have a check.

Hi,
I’m wondering which webhosting company do you use now to host your site? I just signed up with hostgator for hosting my site, but I can’t access and update my website (everyone in China couldn’t but the rest of the world could see my website). They said that the Chinese govt blocked my IP address and they can’t do anything with it. Do you know any solution to my problem? Whether I could ask Chinanet to open up the blocked port or just anything???
Thanks alot for your help! Cheers!
Hi, nathan, I am just using Hostgator. now everything works well for me. I can update my site, and I know most of my friends in China can visit my site ( but not all of them). It seems China might block some sites because of their content, but everything seems okay with my site. is it because of your site content?
I don’t know what kind of package you bought from hostgator. If it’s a shared plan and if there is one or more China-blocked sites in your IP address, your site will also be blocked.
You can ask for help from live support of hostgator. I really have no idea about the solution. you know, sometimes when the block thing happens to us, what we can do is just waiting. maybe, it will be okay after couple of days.
Good luck to you!
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I’ve been using the live chat in hostgator everyday to ask for help, email the support division but they just said that nothing they can do because it’s been blocked by the Chinese government. If I’m not mistaken, I signed up the baby plan for a year and my website contains nothing sensitive. Hostgator asked me to buy their dedicated server costing US$2/ month but with no guarantee that the new IP will be a no problem (this is too much).
What I’m doing now is searching for a new hosting company to transfer my domain and I found Sinohosting, a new web hosting company based in Shanghai with English language support and claiming to have servers in USA,UK,Singapore and China. Perhaps I’ll give it a try and hope no more blocked problems.
Best regards,
Nathan
